This is the larger hole variation of the US M-1 Helmet net. It has been cut from an original cargo camouflage material.
This particular model is 100% cotton, khaki in colour, and has 2" spacings. Unlike other nets, this one does not have a draw string and is tucked between the helmet shell and liner.
Although evidenced in period photos as being used by the 502nd during the Normandy Campaign, because of its ease of procurement it was a popular item. This style of helmet covering saw wide use by both infantry, airborne and support units in both the Pacific and European Theaters of Operation..
